LANSING—State Sen. Goeff Hansen invited Ken Hulka (left), managing director of the Muskegon County Road Commission, to provide testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday.
Hansen and Hulka offered comments in support of allocating additional road funding for local road agencies adversely affected by the recent winter storms.
“Communities along the Lake Michigan shoreline have received the brunt of lake effect snow. As a consequence of the unusually high snow totals, our local road agencies have, in most cases, exceeded their winter maintenance budgets,” said Hansen, R-Hart. “Under the circumstances, they’ve done their best to keep our streets safe and open to traffic.
“I appreciate the work they do on our behalf, and I believe it’s only fair to make sure they have the necessary funding to recoup their costs and to be able to plan for their upcoming summer maintenance season.”
