Bills to protect the Great Lakes from invasive species signed

LANSING ― State Sen. Goeff Hansen (left), R-Hart, and Gov. Rick Snyder hold Senate Bill 510, sponsored by Hansen, after it was signed into law. SBs 508 through 510 establish the Great Lakes Basin Aquatic Invasive Species Advisory Council. The council will help protect the state from an ecological catastrophe from aquatic invasive species and help prevent millions of dollars in lost revenue. The new laws are Public Acts 284 through 286 of 2011.

Hansen, Hughes celebrate MCC’s 85th anniversary

LANSING — Sen. Goeff Hansen, R-Hart, and Rep. Holly Hughes, R-Montague, welcomed Muskegon Community College President Dale Nesbary and the school’s board of trustees to the Senate floor for a special presentation in celebration of its 85th anniversary. MCC plays a vital role in meeting the job training needs of employers in west Michigan. Students and faculty, who are proud to call themselves Jayhawks, play an integral part in the success and economic development of the community.
